Choosing Traffickers Over The Government

The Dalai Lama, leader of the Tibetan Buddhist faith appealed to Aung San Suu Kyi to speak up against the persecution of the Rohyingya in Myanmar. The Rohingya, a Muslim minority group in Myanmar that live in camps along Myanmar’s boarder with Bangladesh, are considered illegal immigrants by the government. The conditions in the camps are appalling which has led the population to risk their lives by trying to get by boats to Southeast Asia. In these perilous journeys they have left their lives in the hands of human traffickers, preferring that to their lives in the concentration camps in Myanmar.
