On Saturday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck Nepal killing more than 1,900 people and leaving over 3000 severely injured. The capital, Kathmandu was in shock with historic sites destroyed and residential areas ruined. In addition, the earthquake set off avalanches in Mount Everest leaving at least 34 climbers dead. This being climbing season, many climbers were forced to flee their bases and evacuate the area. This has been the largest earthquake in Nepal in eighteen years and the damage still continues because of aftershocks.
