On Wednesday, at the Bardo Museum in Tunisia, 22 people were shot dead. There have been 9 people arrested and the Tunisian Presidency has said that four were directly linked to the attack, the others had ‘ties to the cell.’ The attack, by gunmen from ISIS was supposedly directed at Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi. It was described by ISIS as a “blessed invasion of one of the dens of infidels and vice in Muslim Tunisia”.
Tunisia, where the Arab Spring uprising began managed to successfully overthrow the dictator Ben Ali and had its first free elections in 2014. Attacks like this threaten its fragile democracy.
The gunmen, Tunisian citizens, did not seem like radicals right up to the attack, one was even a rap artist till ISIS got to him.
